Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 14, 2026
HAKOL ("we," "our," or "us") is a Jewish prayer, calendar, and learning app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We are based in California, United States.
1. Information We Collect
a. Account Information (Firebase)
When you create a HAKOL account, we collect your email address and assign you a unique user ID via Firebase Authentication (Google). This is required to enable cloud sync and account features.
b. App Preferences and Content (Firestore)
If you are signed in, the following data is synced to our Firestore database so your settings carry across devices:
- Prayer type (nusach), calendar mode, display language, and theme preference
- Favorited prayers, texts, and content
- Custom calendar events and personal dates you create, such as Yahrzeits, birthdays, and anniversaries, including names, dates, event type, Hebrew date metadata, Yizkor options, and created/updated timestamps
- Admin-granted recognition flags (e.g., Early Supporter badge), set manually by us — never by the app
c. Location (Device-Local Only)
HAKOL uses your device's location to calculate zmanim (prayer times), support compass features, and find nearby Chabad Houses. Your GPS coordinates and city name are stored only on your device in local storage and are never sent to HAKOL servers or Firebase. Some iOS system services, such as Apple Location Services and geocoding, may process location-related requests on your device under Apple's Privacy Policy.
d. Profile Photo (Device-Local Only)
Profile photos are stored only on your device and are never uploaded, synced, or transmitted anywhere.
e. Widgets (Device-Local Shared Storage)
HAKOL widgets use Apple App Groups shared storage on your device to display app information such as zmanim, Hebrew date, Parsha, general location label, Shabbat times, and upcoming personal dates. This widget data is stored locally on your device and is not sent to HAKOL servers or Firebase because of the widget feature. Widget content may be visible on your Home Screen or Lock Screen depending on your device settings.
f. Notifications (Device-Local Only)
If you enable notifications, HAKOL stores notification preferences locally on your device and schedules local iOS notifications for features such as Shabbat, zmanim, Mincha, and Sefirat HaOmer. Recent notification history shown inside the app is also stored locally for a limited time. Notification payloads may include a deep link so tapping a notification opens the relevant screen in the app.
g. Hebrew Birthday Calculator (Device-Local Inputs)
The Hebrew Birthday Calculator may use a birth date, birth location, and birth-time choice to calculate the Hebrew date, upcoming Hebrew birthday, and related Parsha information. These calculator inputs are processed on your device and are not uploaded to HAKOL servers or Firebase. If you tap the Birthday in Jewish History link, the selected date is opened on Chabad.org.
h. Native Calendar Sync
If you choose to enable Calendar Sync, HAKOL may create or update a HAKOL calendar in your device's native Calendar app and write selected Yahrzeit, birthday, and anniversary events to it. This requires your permission. Calendar entries may sync through Apple iCloud or another calendar provider configured on your device, according to your device and account settings.
i. Website Visitors
When you visit hakol.app, our hosting provider (Vercel) may automatically collect standard server log data, including your IP address, browser type, referring page, and pages visited. This data is used for security and operational purposes and is governed by Vercel's Privacy Policy.

Device-local data such as location, profile photo, widget data, notification history, Hebrew Birthday Calculator inputs, and local event data can be cleared by changing app settings, signing out where applicable, deleting local entries, or uninstalling the app. Calendar entries written to your native Calendar app may also need to be removed from the Calendar app or calendar account where they were created.
